It’s been just over 50 years since the January 1974 devastated Dunsmuir, flooding and destroying homes all over town; even some homes well away from the Sacramento River and outside the floodplain couldn’t escape the historic flood. More historic photos inside.
The grants will bring millions of dollars in wildfire mitigation work to residents, but you must sign up so the money doesn’t go to waste.

A movie crew is in town and there will be a hard road closure and parking closure for
potions of Dunsmuir Ave and Cedar Streets,
Tomorrow, Friday August 27th, 2021.
Parking restrictions are in place from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Hard road closure from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

There will be a road block at Oak St to prevent folks from coming north up Dunsmuir Ave and getting turned around after reaching Burger Barn. Residents living NORTH of Oak Street and SOUTH of Burger Barn, will need to show proof of residency to drive north of Oak St to park at their properties.
Pedestrians will be free to walk into the businesses / along the street at the closed sections
Motorists will be offered a detour around the closure.

Beginning the week of Monday, August 23rd you may experience intermittent traffic delays along Dunsmuir Ave, from Oak Street continuing south to Grover as crews work to repave this section of street. There will be a hard closure of this section Monday. Look for a detour down Sheriff’s Hill to Sacramento Ave all the way to Grover to get around the hard closure. See map, red is the area of hard closure, yellow highlights the detour around.
After Monday, all throughout the week thereafter, there will be one way traffic control as paving operations continue South. Expect one lane traffic control all the way south on Dunsmuir Ave to Manfredi’s.

Pacific Power has indicated they will be initiating a full Public Safety Power Shutoff, beginning at 3:30 p.m. , August 17th, 2021. We expect a full power shutdown for the The City of Dunsmuir. Expect your power to be shut off completely starting at 3:30 p.m. until further notice. Expectations are that there will be no electricity available to you during this time. This was initiated due to increased fire danger in our area and is a preventative measure to avoid wildfires.
A cooling center will be available from 3:30 - 10:00 p.m. to those that need it. The cooling center will be located at Dunsmuir Community Resource Center, 5840 Dunsmuir Ave. Phone: (530) 235-4400
Pacific Power has notified the City that we are under a Public Safety Power Shutdown Watch between 5 pm and 11 pm this evening. A cooling center will be set up starting at 2:00 pm just in case the PSPS is activated. Please check back periodically as we will make updates when we receive them from Pacific Power.

Residents living on Butterfly Ave may experience a temporary water shut off as crews upgrade the water main.
Shutoff will be tomorrow, TUESDAY, 8/10/2021 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Residents affected by this shut off should have received a blue hang tag note on their door to notify them.

**UPDATE** - All water main work is now completed along Dunsmuir Ave from Cemetery South. All residents along this route should have water back on .
Construction on River Ave will begin on 7/15/21. There will be some delays and temporary road closures.
Attention Dunsmuir residents: A portion of Butterfly Ave known as “The Wall” is now closed for replacement of a 900 ft water main. Road Signs are placed alerting motorists of the closure. Pedestrians and Fishing Enthusiasts may still access this area by foot. If you live south of Butterfly on Gillis please use Scherrer Ave>Bridge St as a detour around (see highlighted route below). Expected opening of the closure is week of July 12th.

The City of Dunsmuir City Council will hold a Public Hearing on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. on the following item:
Short-Term Rentals Ordinance
The project is a city-initiated amendment to Title 17, Zoning, of the City of Dunsmuir Municipal Code (DMC) to establish regulations for short-term rentals. The project, which adds Chapter 17.40, Short-Term Rentals, to DMC Title 17, institutes a registration requirement for short-term rentals, as well as an application process, inspection requirements, operational standards, prohibitions, and penalties for noncompliance. The project was reviewed by the City of Dunsmuir Planning Commission on May 12, 2021, with the Planning Commission voting three to two to recommend to the City Council that the City adopt the proposed amendment to Title 17.

Attention Dunsmuir Residents. Dooryard burning of yard debris is suspended for the season if you live within the City Limits. If you live outside City Limits you must first obtain a residential burn permit from CalFire to burn. It requires watching a short video and printing out a permit. Prior to burning, call the Siskiyou County Air Pollution Control District at (530) 842-8123 to confirm the burn day status and any burn hour restrictions. Need more details?
