Fair Plan Residents Firewise Discount Resolved

After Dunsmuir became Firewise Certified at the end of July, wildfire-conscious residents submitted their Firewise Certificates to their insurance companies to receive a wildfire premium insurance discount.

Thanks to the Firewise discount, residents have reported up to $200 in savings on their insurance premiums, but unfortunately, Fair Plan residents have been denied this discount. The City reached out to the California Department of Insurance (CDI) about this issue, and CDI contacted the Fair Plan, and the problem has now been resolved.

Fair Plan residents who have been denied the discount should resubmit the Certificate AND submit a copy of the Dunsmuir Firewise Map. The Map can be found on our Firewise website here (link); scroll down and click the Firewise Map button. Non-Fair Plan residents only need to submit the Certificate to receive their insurance discount. By November, the Fair Plan system should be updated, and Fair Plan-insured residents will only need to submit the certificate.
