Railyard Cleanup and Sacramento River Update

The following is information provided to the City of Dunsmuir by Unified Command.

Unified Command for Dunsmuir Railyard Shoreline Response Action and Restoration Project has installed sorbent booms (pictured) along the shoreline in the Butterfly Bridge area today (8/9) to assist with cleaning up oil sheen in the river. Project operations in the Railyard are stirring up sediment and releasing oil to the in-river isolation barrier. Small amounts of oil have passed through the barrier and into the river. The sorbents are intended to clean up the areas of sheen that are stranding along the shoreline.  The sorbents will be replaced periodically as needed and will remain in use while operations to excavate contaminated soils and remove the retaining wall are active.

Additionally, a hard boom and turbidity curtain were installed today adjacent to the railyard and will remain in the river at all times, including overnight. You may see lights installed to illuminate the new signage and hard boom when the sun goes down.

Monitoring and testing of the river continues. See posts on 8/8 and 8/6 for additional information.
