The City of Dunsmuir, the Dunsmuir Fire Department, and the Siskiyou County Sheriff have worked together to create a new Evacuation Siren Policy.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has placed Dunsmuir under a Winter Storm Warning and is forecasting 1-2 feet of snow from Friday Afternoon - Saturday Afternoon.

Thanks to the Firewise discount, residents have reported up to $200 in savings on their insurance premiums, but unfortunately, Fair Plan residents have been denied this discount. Snowstorm is predicted Thursday, as such, Thursday pick-up day residents may leave out garbage cans for a possible early Wednesday afternoon pick-up. BE ADVISED Waste hauler may attempt to pick up can a day early, especially if you live on a steep street!
Please bring your can out as close to the inside of snow berm as possible to avoid getting missed!
Remove your can from street as soon as garbage has been picked up to prevent any mishaps with a snow plow!

The propose of snow removal is for emergency access, mail delivery, public commuting and commercial deliveries.
Snow removal generally begins when 2 or more inches of snow has fallen.
On street parking is prohibited during snow removal operations. Vehicles not moved during snow removal operations can be towed and moved to a storage area at the owner’s expense.
Alternative parking is available on a limited basis at South City Hall parking lot, North City Hall Parking lot, and the Community Center Building parking lot at City Park.

City of Dunsmuir is offering FREE tree limb drop off at City Park
Bring your downed limbs to City Ball Park, parking area, now through Sunday, November 20th, drop them in the coned off area for chipping.

DOORYARD BURNING REQUIREMENTS
Prior to burning, call the Siskiyou County Air Pollution Control District at (530) 842-8123 to find out if it is a “ burn day” and any burn hour restrictions.
Only dry, natural vegetation such as leaves, pine needles and tree trimmings that originated on the property can be burned. Burning household garbage is not allowed.
Piles should be no larger than 4-feet in diameter with 10-feet of clearance down to bare soil.
A responsible adult must be in attendance at all times. Fires should never be left unattended.
Must have a water supply available, such as charged garden hose or 5-gallon water extinguisher.
DO NOT burn on windy days.
Siskiyou County Residents living outside Dunsmuir City Limits are required to first obtain a valid “residential burn permit”. It may be obtained online at the CAL FIRE Burn Permit website: https://burnpermit.fire.ca.gov/ You MUST Print Out and Sign your permit for it to be valid. Burn Permits must be available on hand at burn location.
Dunsmuir residents, it’s advised you review the Burn Permit website and watch the safety video to learn how to safely control your residential landscape debris burn pile. It has some great safety tips!

The areas will be impacted from the Southbound Exit at Central Dunsmuir to Sacramento Ave at Dunsmuir Inn. Then down Sacramento Ave to Butterfly for inbound traffic. Traffic between the North and South Yards will be traveling down Sacramento Ave to Scherrer Ave entering the South Yard at Bridge Street. See route image highlighted in blue below.
The traffic will be approximately 50 trucks a day between the yards and inbound/outbound. There will be parking restrictions during the working hours of the project throughout the duration. The work hours for the project are 7:30am to 5:30 PM Monday through Saturday. The project will most likely have a winter shutdown period but will be working as late in the season as possible. There will be no parking posted on Sacramento avenue on the hill near the Amtrak Station and south of Cedar to Butterfly due to the narrow roadway. Due to safety concerns for traffic and pedestrians' vehicles in the no parking zone may be towed. Please contact city hall with any questions. 530-235-4822
California Vehicle Code 4000 (a) 1. states:
“A Person shall not drive, move or leave standing upon a highway, or in an off street public parking facility, any motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, unless it is registered and the appropriate fees have been paid….”
Exception: “An off-highway motor vehicle which displays an identification plate issued by the DMV pursuant to Section 38010 may be driven, moved, or left standing in an off-street public parking facility without being registered or paying fees.”
DMV Website states: Planned Non Operation (PNO) means that the vehicle WILL NOT be: driven, towed, stored or parked on public roads or highways for the entire registration year.
All Vehicles in violion of CVC 4000 (a) will be Towed/Stored WIHTOUT WARNING if registration is expired more than 6 months (Under Authority of CVC 22651(o)(1)(A)
Painting of centerlines throughout Dunsmuir’s main thoroughfares is to happen tomorrow, Friday, October 7th. Please be patient as crews wrap up and make our streets look sharp before winter hits!

As the water main replacement project wraps up for winter… expect repaving on our main drag.

Please slow for the Cone Zone and be courteous to the road crew making improvements to your town.
Expect traffic control and delays are possible at this time.
As Dunsmuir’s water main replacement project wraps up for winter, a contractor will begin repaving select streets.
Expect repaving to start Tuesday, September 27th on Orange St, then to Olive, Castle, Vista and Cedar Street if time allows.
There will be detours, traffic control and occasional closures during this time.
Final day of work for those street sections is expected on Monday, October 3rd.
